sorry to be all anonymous-like, but this was so intriguing. weird... but altogether more amusing than either gg or conviction at the moment. i can't really picture alex/lorelai, but you made it work with this spin on it, and you're a good writer (the fact that you even mention Faulkner makes you cool in my book- just add a few "Lorelai smells like trees", and you'll be right there)
